CNC Router Machine XE-PRO
[Closed-loop Steeper Motors] Equipped with four closed-loop stepper motors, this enables the CNC Router XE-PRO can run faster, smoother and lower noise level. The max moving speed is 5000mm/min, which is 2.5 times faster than the open-loop stepper motors.
[Ball Screw Driven System] The XE-PRO uses 1204 ball screws on the XYZ axis for precise cutting and carving. It also uses the dual linear rails on Z axis to improve the rigidity of the machine.
[Simple to Use] Still based on open-source grbl control, you can find a lot of tutorials on Youtube. Due to the solid structure of the machine, it allow the users have more rooms to make errors, even though your settings such as engraving speed, depth per pass, plunge rate are not perfect. You can still carve with a nice result.
[Easy Installation] Main parts are pre-assembled, it just takes 25-30 minutes to assemble the machine, then you can explore the journey of CNC machining.

The last time I purchased a cnc was back in 2010. It required a lot of upgrades and DIY home-made parts to get it to the level I required. Since then I discovered FoxAlien - their equipment is outstanding! I managed to find all the accessories I needed on their website - it's a great way to avoid the high barrier to entry. I purchased a base model XE-PRO and slowly upgraded it over time! I've since added dust collection, a dust shoe, upgraded the spindle motor, slides, hybrid spoilboard... you name it!
You'll find many videos on Youtube on how to assemble and get it going.
Their service team and parts support is also unmatched, they even sell replacement parts
I'm using Universal Gcode Sender (to control the cnc), it's free/reliable software - small learning curve, and never had any major issues.
In addition I purchased a license for Carbide Create (CAD/CAM) - I found it easy to use and it outputs the necessary gcode for UGS.
In my opinion, this is one of the better cnc models to purchase. The motors are great, they don't get hot or lose position (so long as the power is on). I find that it can travel fast enough and push hard enough for all my woodworking needs (soft & hard wood). The stock rails are good enough, you will need to adjust (tighten) all of the eccentric cams on the roller wheels, this will remove ALL the play in the axes, and yield awesome cutting results. I also used medium-strength threadlocker on all screws, paying special attention to the grub screws and set screws on the ballscrew-to-motor couplings (I found the z-axis was slipping a little, the medium loctite and some tightening of the screws did the trick). There's little required maintenance apart from cleaning the machine & greasing the ball screws now and then (based on use). In addition, FoxAlien provides a linear slide rail upgrade kit, it's outstanding!
Overall, I've used the XE-PRO for several months, and I'm really happy with the performance.
I'm actually going to convert it from a router machine to a laser engraver (with their laser kit).
My new addition will be the FoxAlien Vastro XL V2, the working surface is much larger (for my larger cnc projects)
CNC Router Machine XE-PRO
Good solid machine that is easily assembled. The only negative is the display on the controller which looks like something from the 1990’s, and makes it almost unusable unless you have excellent lighting conditions. Would be nice if you could purchase an upgrade that you could just plug and go.
Other then a bent shaft on the router, works very well after i replaced it.
Had a rough time setting up with software due to fact I use a MacBook
This is a great little machine, which has taken everything I've thrown at it so far. It's still early days but I think this machine will serve me well and for a long time.
Easy to assemble. Before starting I set the y-axis to maximum and the limit switch was activated, after I managed to unpress the switch everything worked perfectly. Very happy with it.
My dad ordered me the Fox Alien XE-4040 Pro about a year ago for Christmas 2023. After a year of good use its time for a review. I love this machine! It is my first CNC and it is a blast learning how to use it. I build guitars and make things like bottle openers and signs. I can now make lots of jigs and templates for my guitar building. i haven't tackled a full guitar on it yet. I can now engrave cutting boards and do epoxy inlays, i started selling book marks and small little trinkets. i love making gifts for friends and family. i hope to soon sell these and have more fun. the best part is the support. I was surprised to receive such great tech support from China to the USA. I always receive a reply right away from Joe and their communication is in perfect english. I had an issue with my spindle and they sent me a new one under the warranty in just a few days. While troubleshooting they sent me several photos with detailed instructions on how to test and measure each component to find out the issue. this is a great product and great company. i would highly recommend this to anyone. thank you Fox Alien!
